Featuring Juan Fer Ruiz, a Medellín-born clarinetist, saxophonist, composer, and poet, whose music is deeply contemporary and original. His work blends Colombian roots with jazz improvisation, interwoven with his own poetry, creating a distinctive and expressive sound.

Alongside him is Camila Cortina Bello, a Cuban-born pianist, composer, and educator. Her music bridges ancestral memory and contemporary expression, drawing from Afro-Cuban rhythms, jazz improvisation, and classical forms.

This project brings together original compositions by Camila Cortina, inspired by the poetry of Juan Fer Ruiz. The result is a rich musical dialogue shaped by Latin American rhythms and the evolving language of modern jazz.

This event features two incredible soloists sharing the stage in contrasting global music offerings. New York-based Colombian clarinetist and saxophonist Juan Ruiz—known for his work with 15-time Grammy winner Paquito D’Rivera—joins forces with Cuban pianist and composer Camila Cortina. Together, they explore the rich blend of jazz and Latin musical traditions in an expressive, rhythm-forward set.

A Bolero Night presents some of the most iconic cuban boleros with the wonderful voice of Barbara Zamora, a highly talented singer from Cuba and currently based in Boston. On Clarinet and saxophone we have Juan Ruiz from Colombia, a very active musician in the local and international jazz scene, working with musicians such as Paquito D’Rivera, Chucho Valdés and more. Mario Salvador is a young visionary Tres player and composer whose work is redefining the expressive possibilities of the Tres Cubano in contemporary music. Blending his deep-rooted Cuban heritage with contemporary composition techniques, jazz, Cuban traditions. Leo Luna was born and raised in Havana, Cuba. He is the winner of the Latin Grammy Foundation Sebastian Yatra Scholarship and at his young age has performed with very well known musicians such as Sebastian Yatra, Jesus Molina and more.

Paquito D'Rivera is a fundamental musician in the worlds of Latin jazz and classical music, as a composer and instrumentalist. He is a NEA Jazz Master, multi-Grammy Award winner, and recipient of countless international awards. D'Rivera is also one of the great clarinet players of his generation, with a seven-decade career in Cuba, the United States, and the world.

For his return to Music of the Americas, Paquito created a tribute to his beloved instrument and its music, with original pieces and arrangements for a clarinet ensemble that includes some of his closest collaborators.
